Many entrepreneurs I work with go years without paying themselves a steady paycheck (more on that here!). There are so many reasons why: fear, not understanding money, not having enough money, etc. But paying yourself shouldn’t be a luxury. Just like overhead and product costs, paying yourself is a sign of health in your company. And today, I’m so excited to shine a light on one of our Blueprint Model students, Corine Pettit, as she shares her story of how she turned inconsistent income into a steady paycheck!
After leaving her career in engineering, Corine started a website design business that brought her joy, but also, fear of not having enough funds during slow months. Corine worked through my signature course, The Blueprint Model, and dug in to her numbers to really understand what was happening. After facing her numbers head on, and taking my advice to open up a separate business banking account, Corine was able to set up autopay to herself every two weeks. She now has the peace of a consistent paycheck, even if business is not alway so consistent. I am excited to have her on the blog to share her story!
Without further ado, Meet Corine!

Let’s start with some fun stuff! Lightning Round, here we go:
Website design
Iced chai
Probably oreos!
Having the guts to leave behind my cushy job in engineering to run my own business, even when success wasn’t guaranteed, because I knew my happiness depended on it.
The biggest project I’ve ever booked by 3X! A Custom Website & Branding project for a resort in Fiji!
I broke my jaw from falling out of a golf cart (& face planting onto pavement) in high-school. My jaw is crooked when opened fully lolll
Always be kind, because you never know what others are going through.
Not currently, but a recent fave read is “The Puma Years” by Laura Coleman. So good!

Outdoor adventure guide or Marine Biologist?
You make the rules. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. In your business, but also in your life.

Let’s talk turkey, I mean, Business!
Oh gosh, I wish I knew! I think either through Ashlyn or Paige Brunton.
I think I did the 5-day challenge with Shanna. Once she talked about the Core Motivators I immediately felt “seen”. I loved her emphasis on the numbers and how she doesn’t shy away from them. As a numbers nerd, I WANT to dive into the numbers. I wanted to feel more in control when business feels like a rollercoaster sometimes.
Shanna pushed me to (finally) open a separate business bank account and it literally changed my life. Previously I’d had everything in one account, with a spreadsheet to “earmark” what was set aside for Taxes – but that was about it. In my business, some months I’d have a $13K month, and others would be only $2k. And that felt so stressful! I never knew if I’d have enough to survive. Now, with a separate Business bank account where all revenue accumulates & with Shanna helping me crunch my numbers, I confidently know that I can autopay myself every 2 weeks without fear of over drafting the account. So now my personal life feels so much more calm, consistent, and at peace with a consistent paycheck – even when my business may have HUGE monthly followed by NOT SO HUGE ones.
I feel so much more at peace with personal finances bc I don’t have to stress about “will I have enough money next month?”. Yes. Yes I will. In fact I could continue to pay myself for the next 3 months without doing any more work. That’s peace.
She’s the kindest person ever. Shanna knows how to make you feel comfortable when talking about vulnerable things. She’s so kind and caring, and doesn’t make you feel bad about things (money!)that are vulnerable.

Corine Pettit is a Strategic Website Designer for online service-based business entrepreneurs, agencies, & educators, who uses her Strategy-First approach to create high-converting websites that crush industry standards. After leaving behind her engineering career in 2018 to go full-time in website design, Corine soon realized many seasoned online entrepreneurs & agencies were desperately in need of a website that actually converts in an era of “pretty” websites that just collect dust.
Through 1:1 client work and whitelabel agency support, Corine has supported entrepreneurs and brands includes Kay Putnam, Utz, HARIBO, and more than 60 other clients.
When she’s not 5-layers deep in #allthestrategizing or building new client websites, you’ll find her in the mountains, on a lake, or planning her next trip to some breathtakingly scenic corner of the world.
