It’s that time of year again—where the magic of the season meets the whirlwind of new resolutions and goal setting. But let’s face it, the excitement of setting goals often fades by February, leaving many of us questioning: Why do goals feel so hard to achieve? If you’ve ever found yourself setting ambitious goals only to fall short, you’re not alone. In fact, a staggering 92% of people don’t achieve their goals. And, as someone who’s struggled with this cycle myself, I’ve been there too.

In today’s episode, I’m diving deep into the better way to set goals—one that’s rooted in clarity, values, and science. No more traditional goal-setting that leaves you feeling defeated. I’m sharing the steps I took (and continue to take) to finally achieve what matters most, all while avoiding the dreaded goal failure. And this episode is part 2 of a special end-of-year series where, in part one, I walked you through my personal end-of-year review process. Today, we’re shifting gears to focus on the how—how you can set goals that truly stick and that align with your values and vision.

3 Simple Steps to Creating Goals that actually Stick

1. Start with the End in Mind

Goals that stick aren’t about luck, willpower, or sheer determination—they’re about getting crystal clear on what you truly want. Not what society says you should want, not what your best friend or your mom expects—what you deeply desire. When you chase goals that align with your values and light you up, everything changes. Instead of just checking boxes, you’re working toward something that actually matters to you.

One of my favorite ways to figure out what I want each year is by making it visual—cue the vision board! Whether you dive into Pinterest or go old-school with magazine clippings and a glue stick, vision boards are a fun and creative way to bring your dreams to life. And bonus—they work! Science shows that writing down and visualizing your goals makes you 40% more likely to achieve them. So, grab some scissors, a cup of coffee (or wine!), and start dreaming. Your future self will thank you!

2. Reframe Goals as Outcomes

Traditional goals can feel like a giant to-do list that nobody asked for. They’re rigid, uninspiring, and way too focused on the “what” instead of the “why.” That’s why I’m obsessed with reframing goals as outcomes. Instead of setting a goal like “lose 20 pounds,” try this: “feel like an athlete.” See the difference? Outcomes are exciting, motivating, and tied to the bigger picture of what you really want to experience.

Here’s the magic of focusing on outcomes: they’re flexible, which means you can pivot if needed without feeling like you failed. Plus, they’re anchored in your values, so you’re chasing something that truly matters to you. For me, shifting from “I should” goals to “I want” goals was life-changing. Instead of dragging myself to the gym because I should work out, I started going because I wanted to feel strong, energized, and confident. That shift made all the difference!

3. Turn Goals into Actionable Plans

Dreaming big is exciting, but let’s not forget the most important part: action. The secret sauce to achieving your goals is breaking them down into bite-sized steps that feel doable (because who has time for overwhelm?). Start with milestones—small wins along the way that keep you motivated. Think of them like road signs guiding you toward your big vision.

Once you’ve got your milestones, zoom in even further to create action steps—the tiny tasks you can check off your list each day. For example, if your milestone is choosing a brand designer, an action step might be researching five designers or requesting quotes. These little steps add up to big wins, and before you know it, you’re crushing your goals like a pro. Remember, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about making consistent progress. Step by step, milestone by milestone, you’ll turn your dreams into reality.

Make This the Year Your Goals Stick

Goal-setting doesn’t have to feel overwhelming or unattainable. By taking the time to get crystal clear on what you really want, reframing goals as outcomes, and breaking them down into actionable plans, you’re setting yourself up for success.

This process isn’t about perfection— it’s about creating a vision for the year ahead that aligns with your values and makes you excited to take action. Whether you want to feel healthier, grow your business, or create more balance in your life, the steps we’ve outlined give you a roadmap to make it happen.

So grab a notebook, create that vision board, and start dreaming big. The next 12 months are yours to design (or should I say… plan!)
