Lindsey Bomgren started Nourish Move Love with a mission: to make quality workouts free and accessible to women around the world. Almost a decade later, not only has she succeeded, but she’s built a 7-figure business too!

Lindsey is a mom of three littles, fitness trainer, and founder of Nourish Move Love, where she shares free at-home workout videos.

In this interview, you’ll hear how she built a business that doesn’t rely on constant content creation, the key turning point in her journey, and how becoming a mom changed her business for the better.

Saving up to Start a Business

Lindsey grew up playing sports, but after graduating college she found herself sitting at a desk for eight hours a day. In an effort to stay active, she got her personal training certification and started teaching group fitness classes.

“I work hard by nature,” Lindsey says. “I always struggled knowing that no matter how hard I worked, I was going to make the same as the person next to me.”

That ambition led her to a job in medical sales but she always knew she wanted to do her own thing one day. So for two years, she set aside her sales commission to put toward her online fitness business.

A Blog with a Mission

Lindsey was inspired by the food bloggers she saw making a full-time income without charging their readers. She wanted a similar business model, offering free fitness classes and making money from ads on her website.

At the time, everybody else in the fitness space had paid memberships or workout programs, but it was important to Lindsey that her classes were accessible to everyone.

“At the end of the day, fitness makes me a better wife,  mom, friend, daughter, person, community member, church member…and ultimately that’s my goal: to make women better, stronger, more confident versions of themselves in life and motherhood.”

Digging into the Metrics

Like many small business owners, Lindsey started with lofty goals of replacing her corporate salary. Although that didn’t happen in her first year, she wasn’t discouraged. She took on odd jobs to stay afloat and kept producing content.

But in 2017, Lindsey reached a breaking point. She was pregnant with her first child and knew she needed to buckle down. She started learning about search engine optimization (SEO), and how she could build a business that didn’t rely on constant content creation.

“I wish I would have looked at the data, analytics, and all that stuff sooner.” When she began to take her metrics seriously, everything changed.

Growing Traffic to the Blog

When Lindsey realized most of her website traffic came from Pinterest and SEO, she doubled down on her efforts. At first, she was the “queen of all things free” and learned through YouTube videos.

But as Nourish Move Love started to grow, Lindsey developed a new education system: she hires out the process for 3-6 months, learns from the experts, and then takes the process back in-house.

From 2017-2019, Lindsey and her team added one new focus area per year, focusing on slow and steady growth. But all that changed during the pandemic, when the business doubled overnight.

Growing a Business and a Family

When Lindsey was just starting Nourish Move Love, she watched mommy bloggers grow their business in just a few hours a day while raising their kids. It looked easy and glamorous. But the reality didn’t quite match up…

“It’s definitely not for the faint of heart,” Lindsey says. With her husband working full-time and traveling often, she realized it was impossible to work with a baby at home.

Putting her son in daycare was a difficult decision and there are days when Lindsey still questions if she made the right call—but then someone will message her to say her free workout videos changed their life. “And I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

At first, Lindsey thought no one would want to watch her pregnancy and post-partum workout videos. But it turns out it’s made her more relatable to her audience, to see a fitness instructor they admire in the thick of motherhood with them.

Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing

Although Nourish Move Love has added a new revenue stream every year, Lindsey is intentional about keeping the main thing the main thing: “We film awesome workout videos. That’s it.”

It’s easy to get distracted by all the things she *could* be doing, like teaching bloggers how to blog, creating recipes, or filming mom content, but Lindsey stays focused on her primary goals: drive direct traffic and build a loyal community.

Becoming a Numbers Person

Money and success are big motivators for Lindsey. She’s always had a vision of the lifestyle she wants for her family, but she also believes in giving back. “Good people who make good money can do really great things in this world.”

Although she didn’t consider herself a numbers person when she started her business, she’s become one now. “I’m so motivated by seeing input equal output.”

Defining Your Vision and Values

Lindsey has never hesitated to set financial goals for her company—but she has hesitated to share them. One of her major goals was to become a million-dollar company and when she hit that goal, she didn’t even tell her team. “There was always shame around wanting more.”

That was when she decided to reflect on her values and what she truly wanted out of Nourish Move Love. “What is it that I’m striving for and what is enough? Because if it’s money, it’s never going to be enough. I’m always going to be chasing.”

It turns out what Lindsey wanted was to make the same amount of revenue but work part-time hours. She was okay with not growing further if it meant more time with her kids.

This is why I have all my students in The Blueprint Model start with vision casting. Your values are the foundation for everything else in your business!

Reprioritizing Rest

In this next season of business, Lindsey’s goal is stability. After years of preaching fitness to others, she’s ready to prioritize her own health, starting with better sleep and boundaries.

She’s worked hard to build Nourish Move Love to the point where it can run without her, and now it’s time to enjoy some time off—even if it’s just one week of total disconnection. “It’s so hard to slow down when you’re accustomed to growing.”

Looking back, Lindsey would tell herself: “You worked way too hard. Enjoy it, and rest more.”
