It’s been six months since officially announcing 2019 as my last year in business. Well, today is the day! After hitting “publish” on this post, I’m officially closing up shop!
These past six months have already been a season of slowing down .. of finding rest. It’s been a time to stop the rushed “doing” and soak in a new season of “being”. For the first time in quite a while my brain hasn’t been so full thinking about great email subject lines, or launch copy, or website design, or blog content, or pinterest graphics (you get the idea)… that I’ve journeyed back to those early days of entrepreneurship thinking deeply about what I love doing, what gifts I’m uniquely equipped with, and the audience I want to serve. When all the complicated tasks were stripped away, it left me with those really important questions that jumpstarted this business in the first place.
It’s also been a really sweet season of saying “goodbye” in a very intentional way.
Two weeks ago I hosted my 7th live event, Blueprint Summit 2019, at the incredible Dollywood DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Hosting this event in Tennessee was really important to me and the DreamMore Resort did not disappoint. If anyone knows how to do it right, it’s Dolly! We all agreed, it felt like walking into the perfect Hallmark Christmas movie and set a tone for the entire event. When we first pulled up to the resort, I literally cried. You know that feeling of coming home? That’s what it felt like to me. I was able to hug 50 of my incredible students, to have fireside chats about life and business, and again strip back those complicated business tasks in order to remember why I started doing this work in the first place.
I also finished up my final round of The Blueprint Model with our “legacy” class. This was the fifth class of students to go through the Blueprint Model and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve this last class of students! I cannot wait to see where their business dreams take them!
But ok, ok. You’ve waited long enough!
By far the most common question I’ve received during this time is, “What’s next Shanna?”
Honestly, the answer is the same today as it was six months ago, I don’t know!
What I do know is that I’m taking 2020 to get curious again. To do things that I don’t necessarily get paid for, but that I just enjoy doing. Things like : taking a hip hop dance class or volunteering at a community garden. I have entire list of things I just want to try next year. Have you ever felt you’ve become a one dimensional person? Thinking about work all day every day? Maybe this year is just to “come home” to myself again. You know to remember who Shanna is. Not Shanna business owner, just Shanna.
We have one rule and one boundary in place for next year.
I cannot make any decisions about work until the end of next year. While I’m sure you are ready to know what business venture I’ll dream up next, or if The Blueprint Model will actually come out of the vault again … Kyle is keeping this dreamer’s feet on the ground for the next twelve months! Of course my wheels are already spinning, so I’m thankful for this rule to keep me from making any major decisions before I’m ready.
While I cannot make any final work decisions, I can say “yes” to work if it sounds fun! So will I do some classes, maybe! Will I take on some speaking events, maybe! We have determined that saying no to something I would be excited to do is not the goal of taking this year off. The GOAL of this year is to give my brain space to dream again and to be reminded of what I love doing.
While this upcoming season feels unknown, what I do know is this: I am so very thankful for you and the past seven years of serving this community! It has been an absolute HONOR to see each of you pursuing your business dreams and for the opportunity to walk alongside so many of you on the journey. I am forever grateful for all the amazing memories these past seven years have created and I will never take for granted the huge privilege it is to be my own boss. I have you to thank for that!
The unknown can feel scary, but today I’m choosing to see the adventure that awaits. I hope you come along for the journey!
Cheering you on always,
Shanna

I just discovered you, Shanna! And I am KICKING myself for not somehow finding you sooner. I’ve been going through Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger Podcast from the beginning and just listened to your episode. I hopped right online to find you and absorb as much knowledge as I possibly could. I am just dyinggg to get my hands on your Blueprint education material.
All of that being said, I am dying to learn from you in order to be able to do exactly what you’re doing now: take a step back, rediscover things I love outside of work, donate my time an energy to worthy causes, and just be more present and more in love with my life. I am so happy that you are doing those things. Just a quick look through your website and I can see how much you have poured into others in recent years (a lot of the time for free, luckily for me 😉 ).
If you ever do re-release your educational material, know that you have a girl on your email list who is just waiting for that day! In the meantime, I’ll be taking in everything I can that you’ve so generously shared with your community and wishing you all good things during your sabbatical.
