“Business just isn’t for me.”
I told myself that sentence time and time again years ago. I’d been working on running a design business at the time, but eventually, I opted to shut it down. Why? Well, because like I said: “Business just isn’t for me.”
I worked in about a million other fields before landing where I am today. Now, I’m a workflow and systems strategist and educator for creative entrepreneurs, but before this, I was in government, big business, non-profits, corporate, and more.
Honestly, I hated every single one of those jobs. So after a lot of workplace frustration and some much-needed direction, I made the leap back to entrepreneurship for myself and started my company, Love & Spreadsheets, officially.
Early on into business I jumped into the Blueprint Model. And you know what I learned? As it turns out, business actually is for me!
The frustrations I had with trying to run a business disappeared this time around because of the Blueprint Model. I learned that not only could I run a business, but I could run the kind of business I want. The kind of business that works for me.
For my business and my life, time is my biggest motivation. I not only want to have more of it for myself, but I want to use it wisely. I don’t want to waste it, and I don’t want to give it to the wrong things. With that in mind, I was able to define exactly what success looked like for me. To me, success in business meant more time spent the way I wanted to spend it, both on my business and myself.
With that in mind, I made some changes.
I started by creating more package-based services. This allowed me to not only charge more for the services I offered, but to craft my schedule a little bit more specifically. In other words, it gave me more control over my time! I also figured out new systems and workflows that worked well in my business, and I implemented them to take time away from trying to manage a business without structure. And only a year into this shift, I’m at a point where I can step completely away from hourly, recurring work and move specifically to offering only the services and products that best fit my core motivator and give me the life I want to live.
The Blueprint Model changed the way I saw not just my business, but business as a whole. It helped me create a business model that fits me—the kind that makes room for the things that I value.
And it showed me that yes, in fact, business really is for me!
